Bulldogs Triumph on Housatonic, Get Rings

NEW HAVEN, CT – The back-to-back national championship winning heavyweight crew team saw continued success this morning by posting the fastest time at the 2018 Head of the Housatonic Regatta. Yale's Varsity completed the course in 13.03.8. Northeastern and Brown finished second and third, respectively.

Following the races, last year's IRA National Champions were awarded their rings by Vicky Chun, Yale's Thomas A. Beckett Director of Athletics. All nine members of the championship winning crew were present to receive their rings, some traveling across the country and from Europe to attend the ceremony. The members of this boat were Charlie Elwes '19. Sholto Carnegie '18, Jack Lopas '21, Paul Jacquot '18, Cole Tilden '18, Thomas Digby '20, Leonard Jenkins '20, Thomas Beck '20, and Vlad Saigau '21.

In addressing the large gathering for the event, Craig W. Johnson '68 Head Coach Steve Gladstone emphasized Yale's impressive track record and spoke confidently regarding Yale's future.

Gilder boathouse was packed with alumni, family and friends who came to support the program. There was palpable excitement, not just due to Yale's recent success, but in anticipation for what's to come.

Senior Seth Bartlett '19 said "Yale has become prolific during the past couple seasons, but we are looking forward not back. This is a new season and we know we have targets on our backs."

The 2018 Head of the Charles serves at Yale's next challenge, taking place October 20-21. The team looks to send two boats to the regatta.
