Student-Athlete Perspective, Brian Matthews
Today we began our morning with an 8:15 breakfast at the Stillorgan Hotel before departing for Belfast.
In Belfast we had lunch at Ryan's Bar and Restaurant then went over to the rink. Our first practice of the trip was at 1:30 at the SSE Arena. It was great to get our legs moving after all the traveling and get accustomed to the Olympic sheet.
Following practice we moved into The Titanic Hotel in Belfast, our new home for the remainder of the trip. The hotel is just a couple of minutes away from the rink, and right next to the Titanic Museum.
After some down time to settle in to the hotel, we took the bus over to city hall, where we were welcomed to the Friendship Four by the Mayor of Belfast at a reception. At the reception we were fortunate enough to hear about Belfast, walk around City Hall and taste test many of the delicious local goods, from ginger ale to a local farm's ice cream. As a local to the Boston Area, it was especially interesting to hear the Lord Mayor speak of the Belfast-Boston relationship that has been growing over the years.
We capped off the night by walking to The Kitchen Bar to enjoy a great three-course meal and some singing led by Kyle "Johno" Johnson before returning to the hotel.
