Named Rookie Of Week
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Tom Wallenstein's first career start in goal came under difficult circumstances. Thrust into the starting lineup because of an injury, Wallenstein was facing the three-time defending Ivy League champions. He responded quite well, making three saves and playing with confidence as the Bulldogs earned a 2-2 tie with Dartmouth on Saturday. Wallenstein was rewarded for his solid play by being named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Wallenstein even played a key part in the tying goal. He sent a long free kick forward that eventually found its way to Miguel Yuste, who fired a shot into the corner with 40 seconds left in the second half.
Wallenstein, a Leipzig, Germany, native, brings strong credentials to Yale. He played for the RasenBallsport Leipzig Club, helping them capture U17 and U19 Saxon Cups.
Wallenstein is the second Bulldog to earn rookie of the week honors, joining Aldo Quevedo, who was recognized on Sept. 4.
For his efforts, Yuste was named to the Honor Roll this week.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday night when they play at Lafayette.
