First Foreign Trip For Yale Since 2001
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – It's going to be an extra special spring break for the members of the Yale men's soccer team. The Bulldogs are taking a 10-day trip to Italy where they will visit Rome, Florence, Pisa and Milan. During their stay, they are scheduled to play four games, starting on Monday vs. LUISS, an Italian university.
"The team is incredibly excited to visit Italy, and I'm not sure if there's a better place to combine the world history, sightseeing, culture, and cuisine along with one of the most accomplished and historical soccer countries in the world," said Kylie Stannard, The 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "This trip couldn't happen without the amazing generosity of Yale Soccer alumnus Andy Block '61, and we are forever grateful to him for his contribution to make this happen. He, along with YMS teammate John Pearce '61 will be joining us for this once-in-a-lifetime team experience. This is a vision that Andy has had for nearly 10 years and, with his contribution and the support of Yale Athletics, we are really happy to finally make it a reality. This will be the first foreign tour for the men's soccer team since 2001, and we know it will create some priceless memories for our program."
Highlights of the trip include visits to the Colosseum in Rome, Vatican City and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
The Bulldogs will return to the United States on Mar. 19
"From a team standpoint, this will be a great way to come even closer together and create additional bonds and team cohesion both on and off the field," Stannard said. "We have been able to get a little extra practicing in before the trip and it will be hugely valuable to get additional games while in Italy as well."
