3 QUESTIONS FOR CARROLL

Biggest soccer influence and why? Ronaldinho, mainly because he is always happy when he plays, always with a smile on his face. He plays like magic with unpredictable moves and passing in every direction, he always transfers his happiness to the supporters and to his teammates, alongside being a great teammate and a leader. In his prime, few players can beat the level at which he played, with his shooting, footwork skills, speed and near-perfect sense of his teammates positions.  I try to emulate Ronaldinho’s positive and upbeat influence and, especially, his creativity in passing and unpredictable dribbling and footwork.

Do you have an idol or hero: Jorge Paulo Lemann, a successful businessman who has a lifelong love for sports. He is Brazilian and one of the first Brazilians to play NCAA Varsity Division 1 sports at an American University, in his case tennis at Harvard. Jorge Paulo is well known for his humility, leadership and how to build and work with teams, promoting on merit and achieving consistent successes and how to manage and motivate people. Similarly, I will always want the healthy and competitive challenges in athletics and already enjoy the process of motivating and working with my peers.

Why Yale? Coach Stannard and the coaching staff showed me that the soccer program at Yale have great days ahead. The drive, motivation, expertise and good fun they displayed to me stood out for me during my several weeks spent at College ID camps and tournaments in the US – and convinced me that I wanted to be a part of the Yale program. Yale has always been in my family, and my American grandfather, 89, went to Yale undergrad (Class of 1950!) and has always told me of the fun he had during his time at Yale – and, as well, the lifelong friendships among alumnae.
