3 QUESTIONS FOR KIRBY

Who is your biggest soccer influence and why?

My high school coach Federico Bianchi. Since I met him when I was an 11-year-old at soccer camp, Federico has always been an incredible mentor in both soccer and life. Fed is a former college soccer star. I have always admired his technical and tactical skill, but his character off the field made him a true role model in all respects.

Do you have an idol or hero?

Louis Sullivan, Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, Frank Gehry (my neighbor in Santa Monica) and of course Francesco Totti.

Why did you select Yale?

The Yale community has always challenged and inspired me. As a child of two active Yale alumni, I have made lifelong friends at reunions and volunteering with the Yale Alumni Service Corps. Yale's unique interdisciplinary resources at the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, the CEID and throughout the university are the perfect combination for my academic passions. The opportunity to play soccer at such a university is a dream come true.
