Yale Loses to Penn in Round 1

Kim Notches Win

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Bulldogs fell to Penn in the first round of the Men's National Championship tournament by a score of 8-1.

The only Bulldog to win on the afternoon was No. 7 Eric Kim, who is also a nominee for Ivy-League Rookie of the Year. Kim defeated his opponent 3-1.

There were several other close matches that nearly went Yale's way. No. 1 seed Spencer Lovejoy took his opponent Andrew Douglas, who is fourteenth in the nation, to four games before losing. Also falling in close four game matches were No. 3 Harrison Gill and No. 8 Jay Losty.

No. 4 Calvin McCafferty, No. 5 Tyler Carney and No. 9 Yohan Pandole each lost in tightly contested five game matches.

Continuing on in the tournament are Harvard, Penn, Trinity and Rochester. Matches will resume Saturday at 3 p.m.
