Winning Streak Extends to Four Matches

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's tennis team put in a comprehensive performance on Saturday to claim the first match of its tripleheader weekend.  Playing on their familiar blue home courts, the Elis swiftly won the doubles point against their Stony Brook opponents before sealing the match with five singles victories.  The 6-1 triumph marks the Bulldogs' fourth consecutive win, bringing their season record to 5-2.  These last four wins have all come at home.

This time around, it was Yale's No. 3 doubles team that got the team's outing started on a high note.  The duo of junior Daniel Faierman and freshman Alex Hagermoser raced to an 8-1 victory over the Stony Brook pairing of Jose Morales and Brandon Stone.  With this win in Yale's pocket, the tandem of freshman Tyler Lu and sophomore Martin Svenning secured the doubles point with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles.  This victory marks the ninth straight time that Lu has been on the winning team of a completed doubles match.

Heading into singles play, the Elis were brimming with confidence.  Yale's No. 1 player, Lu, has been no stranger to success this season, having won 10 of his last 11 singles encounters.  Saturday was no different for the No. 114 player in the country, as he rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Alexandre Felisa.  Svenning, Faierman and freshman Photos Photiades all posted straight-set victories of their own at No's. 2, 3 and 4 singles, respectively.  And notably, at the No. 5 spot, junior Zachary Krumholz produced a sterling comeback to defeat Tyler Hoffman 3-6, 7-6, 10-7.

The Bulldogs will return to their courts on Sunday to complete their match against Marist and then commence their final match of the weekend against Fairleigh Dickinson.  The first ball will be struck at 9:00 a.m.
