Yale concluded the ECAC Championships on Saturday against Brown and will take the court next on February 23rd against William and Mary.
Coming off of a 4-3 loss to the No. 2 seeded Princeton Tigers the day before, Yale took the court looking to pounce on another Ivy League opponent. The Bulldogs were unable to come back from an early deficit on the No. 2 court, with junior Ryan Cheng and sophomore Cody Lin falling 6-2 to a strong Brown duo of Ching Lam and Jacob Walker. However, the Elis remained locked in, with senior captain Nathan Brown and first year Arnav Dhingra emerging victorious at the No. 3 position. Brown then sealed the doubles point with a 6-4 win at the No. 1 spot over junior Dylan King and first year Michael Sun.
Entering singles play, Brown pulled away with a 2-0 lead with Jacob Walker defeating Yale's Dhingra on court No. 4. But the Bulldogs then turned on the afterburners, claiming the Nos. 2, 1, and 3 matches in quick succession. King, Sun, and Cheng all claimed the first sets by similar margins, and then King cruised through the second set to close off a 7-6, 6-1 win. Sun and Cheng continued to fight alongside each other as well, coming away with respective 7-5, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-4 victories. With Yale now up 3-2, the match would lie in the hands of Cody Lin and Andrew Heller, but unfortunately Brown was able to prevail in both by close margins. This young Yale squad will certainly draw upon this match later in the season both in training and competition, awaiting their next match against Brown in April.
