The Yale Bulldogs fell in a closely-contested match at UC Davis this past Thursday and will continue play against Sacramento State and Portland in the coming days. Full match results are posted at the bottom of this page.
The Elis got off to a superb start against the Aggies in doubles, with junior Andrew Heller and first year Arnav Dhingra delivering a swift 6-2 defeat to their opponents at the No. 3 position. Despite their recent successes, Yale junior Ryan Cheng and sophomore Cody Lin came up just short at the No. 1 spot 6-4. With the doubles score tied at 1-1, the veteran duo of senior captain Nathan Brown and junior Dylan King were able to pull through for the Bulldogs, earning a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot.
UC Davis bounced back quickly at the start of singles play, however, gathering wins at the Nos. 3 and 4 spots versus Dhingra and Lin, respectively. Sophomore Alan Sou fought hard at the No. 6 spot but was also edged out 7-5, 7-5 in a closely-contested thriller. King was quick to boost Yale with a 7-5, 6-4 win at the No. 1 position, but the match would ultimately be closed out with a 6-4, 7-5 loss at the No. 2 position. The grit the Bulldogs displayed in their first outdoor match this spring should be a very encouraging sign as they enter their next two matches in California this week.
