Wraps Up Fall Competition

WALTHAM, Mass.—A mixed day out on the strip Sunday saw the Yale women's fencing team post two wins at the Dec. 8 Brandeis Invitational in Waltham, Mass. Victories came against Boston College and MIT.

In the first round of the day, the Bulldogs recorded a strong 17-10 victory against MIT to open their account for the season. Then, after a second round bye, Yale beat Boston College 15-12 in the third round of competition.

Up against hosts Brandeis in the fourth round of competition, the Bulldogs fell in a 14-13 heartbreaker. The next round against St. John's saw the same result, with the 14-13 verdict reflecting the tough competition throughout the course of the match. Sunday's competition wrapped up with a bout against Air Force Academy, which defeated Yale 16-11.

This year's result improves upon the team's result last when, when it recorded a tight-fought 14-13 win against MIT to finish the competition with a 1-5 record.

The Brandeis Invitational was the Bulldogs' first and only competition of the fall, after the Penn State Garret Open was cancelled earlier in the season. Now, the team will continue training over the winter break and recommence competition with a Jan. 18 bout at home in Payne Whitney Gymnasium against Sacred Heart.
