NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The Yale women's fencing team is looking to continue its strong performance streak this weekend at St. John's. The Bulldogs will face three schools this weekend, Notre Dame, NYU and Wayne State.
The Bulldogs will look to build upon their success from the first few competitions, with multiple wins at both Penn State and Brandeis.
This weekend will be significantly shorter in duration than last week's competition, but it will feature some tough competition. Both Notre Dame and Wayne State have some of of the best fencers in the NCAA. Notre Dame has current NCAA saber champion Francesca Russo, and Wayne State has a completely international squad, anchored by NCAA regional champion Julia Saint-Cricq.
"Concentration and focus will be very important, given that compared to last weekend, our meet will be much shorter," said team manager Lillie Lainoff.
Freshman fencers will use this competition to gain experience and showcase their demonstrated talent. At last week's competition, Lucy Friedmann concluded the day 14-7, sweeping Columbia and Penn, while Sarah Pak and Jenny Zhao beat Columbia in a convincing fasion.
The competition will commence at 9 am on Sunday in Queens, NY.
