NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The Yale women's fencing team boasted strong results in multiple events this weekend, including a 17-10 victory over Vassar.
The team had a significantly stronger performance than last year, where the Bulldogs lost 15-12 to Sacred Heart. This year, although the women narrowly fell 14-13 to Sacred Heart, the women performed exceptionally in saber and foil.
The Bulldogs went 5-4 in saber, 5-4 in foil and 3-6 in epee. Highlights from the competition included freshman Sarah Pak's triumph over CJ McCarter, Sacred Heart's foil anchor, in a tense 1-0 match. Additionally, sophomore saber Ilana Kamber beat two-time NCAA participant Julia Greene.
"While the narrow loss was disappointing, we had a very strong showing against both Sacred Heart and Vassar, and I have complete faith that this season will continue to improve for us," said captain Joanna Lew.
