ITHACA, N.Y. The Yale women's fencing team finished in sixth place at the Ivy League Round Robins, defeating Brown for the first time in four years.

"Beating Brown was exciting and energizing for us. Jenny, Lucy, Ilana and Sarah all stood out in their records and brought much needed confidence to the team," said captain Joanna Lew. "We fought for every bout and intend to do the same going forward!"

Highlights included a slew of strong freshman performances, including Jenny Zhao, who came in 6th in the foil event, and made Second Team All-Ivy. Freshman epee Lucy Friedmann came in 10th, sweeping Columbia, and freshman Sarah Pak finished right behind her in 11th. Additionally, sophomore Ilana Kamber and Lew tied for 11th place in the saber event.
The junior class also had their share of strong performances. Junior Olivia Briffault beat No. 4 Harvard's epeeist Shawn Wallace, who made Second Team All Ivy. And Junior Lillie Lainoff's 5-3 win against No. 3 Princeton's Allison Lee knocked the latter out of All Ivy Honors contention.
"Beating Brown, and our overall performance, is indicative of how hard we have been working and how our team has improved," said Lainoff.
