Yale Boasts Strong Results at Regionals

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The Yale women's fencing team saw a top-ten finish and other impressive results this weekend at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships.

The saber squad had an especially strong showing, with captain Joanna Lew finishing 9th, sophomore Ilana Kamber 18th, junior Lillie Lainoff 23rd, and senior Ashley Feng 30th. Lew won an impressive 11 bouts on the way to her top ten finish.

Freshmen foil fencers Sarah Pak and Jenny Zhao held their own for their first regional competition. Zhao finished 11th, closely followed by Pak in 14h. Zhao won a total of 10 bouts during the competition. 

Freshman Lucy Friedmann represented Yale well in foil, by finishing in the top half of the pool.

The qualifying athletes for the NCAA Championships will be announced on Tuesday.
