INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Junior captain Joanna Lew and freshman Jenny Zhao of the Yale women's fencing team have been selected by the NCAA Committee to compete at the national championships. The championships will take place Mar. 24-27 at Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass.

Lew will represent the team in the saber competition. She is coming off an impressive performance at the Northeast Regional Competition, where she placed 9th and won 11 bouts collectively.

Zhao will compete in foil. She has had a standout first season on the team, ending the regular season with 10 wins at Northeast Regionals, finishing 11th.

With only 76 women total selected by the committee, the Bulldogs are entering an elite field of competition. Lew and Zhao are both one of 24 athletes competiting in foil and saber respectively. Only the top nine foil and top nine saber fencers from the Northeast Region were invited.

Last year at NCAAs, former captain Lauren Miller '15 placed 12th in foil and sophomore Ilana Kamber placed 23rd in saber.
