Bulldogs Fall to Quakers, 21-6

Feb. 5, 2006

Ithaca, NY - The Bulldogs competed Sunday in the first day of Ivy League competition, falling to UPenn, Harvard, and Columbia. Despite the losses, the Bulldogs had much to be proud of.

"It was our hardest meet of the year," captain Isadora Botwinick said. "They weren't going our way today."

The Bulldogs lost their first match of the day to Penn, falling 21-6 to the Quakers. The foil squad had the best showing with a 6-3 loss. Diana Schawlowski went 3-0. In epee, Anne Nguyen earned Yale's only victory, defeating Jackie Schramm.

In sabre, Carly Guss went 2-1, contributing the Bulldogs' only two victories in that weapon.

In this first match, captain Isadora Botwinick acknowledged that the team was not at its highest energy level.

"We weren't really energized and were not quite focused on what we were doing," Botwinick said.
