Peng in Top Ten; DeSombre Starts Season Strong
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif.-- As day one comes to a close, the Yale women's golf team currently sits in 7th place out of 20 teams with a score of 310. Leading the team is senior Jennifer Peng in T8th with a score of 74 (+3).
Peng, known for being a powerhouse golfer, started her final season of her collegiate career strong, firing three birdies on holes 15, 17, and 18. She is currently tied with eight other golfers for T8, meaning the next round will be crucial for Peng to move up in the rankings.
Also giving a powerful performance today was first-year Gabrielle DeSombre. The rookie shot a birdie on her third hole of the day and kept that momentum going into the front half, shooting another birdie on hole 1. She ended the day with a score of 77 (+6). Right behind DeSombre, junior Julie Luo scored a 78 (+7) with a birdie on hole 2. Senior Jayshree Sarathy and sophomore Beryl Wang rounded out the team for a day one score of 310. Four points separate the Bulldogs from the 6th place team, giving them an opportunity to move up in the rankings during tomorrow's final round.
