PRINCETON, N.J. - First-year forward Rebbeca Vanstone tallied her first collegiate goal in the 4-1 loss at Princeton (1-2-0) on Friday. Gianna Meloni recorded a career-high 41 saves in the season opener.
Down 4-0 in the closing minutes of the third period, Vanstone buried a centering pass from Greta Skarzynski for a five-on-three power play goal. Senior captain Emma Vlasic earned the secondary assist for her 30th career point.
The Bulldogs were kept in the game by their netminder, who saw 45 shots in 58 minutes. Meloni's previous career-best performance was a 40-save game against Penn State at Ingalls last season. She moves forward with a .911 save percentage.
Princeton forward Carly Bullock set a new career-high, single-game record, scoring all four goals for the Tigers.
The Yale women's hockey team visits Quinnipiac tomorrow. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 pm in Hamden, Connecticut.
