Kuss' Two-Run Double Key Hit
Yale turned in an impressive performance on the final day of the Maryland Invitational. Lindsay Kuss' two-run double highlighted a three-run second inning as the Bulldogs edged Jacksonville 3-2. Terra Jerpbak pitched a complete game to earn the victory.
Yale had seven hits in the game.
All the scoring came in the second inning. Miranda Papes reached on an error to start the Bulldogs' rally. Carlin Hagmaier followed with a single. Kuss then plated both runners with a double to right centerfield. After Shelby Kennedy's bunt single, Annie Tarte capped the scoring with an RBI single.
Jacksonville answered with two runs in the bottom of the second, but Jerpbak settled down after that.
Jacksonville had a runner reach in the bottom of the seventh, but Yale's defense rose to the challenge.
With a runner on first and one out, Allie McCourt hit a liner that was snared by Kuss at shortstop. Kuss then fired to first to double off Serena Quinata and end the game.
Jerpbak yielded six hits and struck out three to earn her second win of the season.
Yale returns to Connecticut and is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Central Connecticut on Tuesday, weather permitting. The first pitch of the first game is slated for 2 p.m.
