NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale and Cornell combined for 28 runs, 36 hits and six home runs in Sunday's doubleheader at Dewitt Family Field. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs Cornell came out on top in both games. Devon March and Elise Menaker each hit two-run homers to lead the Big Red to a 7-3 victory in the first game. In the second game, Cornell scored six times in the fifth inning to snap a 5-5 tie en route to an 11-7 win. Katie Edwards, Allie Canulli and Aracelis Torres all homered for the Bulldogs.

The Big Red (21-7, 5-1 Ivy) led 5-2 after three innings of the second game. Yale, though, tied it in the fourth. Edwards was hit by a pitch to start the rally. Holly Gutterud followed with a single to center. Canulli then hit a long fly ball that cleared the centerfield fence for her second homer of the season.

The score didn't stay tied for long. Cornell sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six times in the fifth. The big hit was Samantha Hare's three-run double. Menaker added a two-run double.

The Bulldogs got one back in the sixth. Gutterud singled and later scored on Canulli's sacrifice fly to centerfield. Torres belted a solo homer to right in the seventh to cap the scoring.

Yale (12-16, 2-6 Ivy) had taken a 2-0 lead in the first on Edwards's second homer of the season, a long blast over the left-field fence.

The Big Red scored twice in the second and three times in the third to take the lead.

Ashley Sloan, who missed the first three games of the weekend with an injury, returned to the lineup for the Bulldogs and singled and walked in three at bats. Courtney Blachford made a terrific shoe-string catch in left field to thwart a Cornell rally in the first inning.

KR Ling started in the circle for Yale and allowed only four earned runs in 4.2 innings. Deanna DiBernardi pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.

In the first game, the Big Red took an early 1-0 lead on Jenna Campagnolo's RBI single in the first. Menaker's run-scoring single in the third made it 2-0, and March hit her two-run homer to centerfield in the fourth.

The Bulldogs mounted a two-out rally to score once in the bottom of the fourth. Canulli singled and advanced to third on McKynlee Westman's double to left. Blachford followed with a single to left that scored Canulli. Katie Yanagisawa walked to load the bases, but Cornell pitcher Jenn Meunier retired the next hitter to avoid further damage.

Menaker's homer in the fifth made it 6-1, and the Big Red added another run in the sixth.

Yale took advantage of two Cornell errors to score two unearned runs in the seventh. Torres knocked in the first with a single, and Megan Enyeart followed with an RBI double.

Meuner scattered eight hits and struck out three to earn her 12th win of the season.

Lauren Huddleston singled and doubled for the Bulldogs.

Yale is back in action on Thursday, playing a doubleheader at Sacred Heart beginning at 3 p.m.
