Beecroft, Teegan Advance to Quarterfinals

WASHINGTON, D.C.— The 2018 College Squash Individual Championships have just begun, and things are already looking good for the Bulldogs. Both women representing Yale on the national stage, Lucy Beecroft and Helen Teegan, earned a spot in Friday's quarterfinals.

Beecroft, who is competing in the top bracket and has a chance at the national title, fought a hard five games against Trinity's Salma T. Alam Eldin. After dropping the first two games, Beecroft rallied in the final three, even blanking Alam Eldin in the fourth game.

With her victory Beecroft advances to the quarterfinals, and is automatically amongst the top eight players in the country. Her next opponent is Amelia Henley of Ivy League rival Harvard University. Henley played at Harvard's No. 5 when they appeared against Yale both in the regular season and at team nationals. Beecroft played at No. 1.

The match will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening.

Helen Teegan will also advance to the quarter final round in the tournament's B Division North after winning her opening match in a neat three games. She is scheduled to take on Jennifer Haley from Trinity College in her next round of competition.

The match will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
