Princeton, NJ- The Bulldogs lost its first match of 2018 in the first round of the ECAC Indoor Championship, falling to rival Cornell 4-3. Cornell was seeded 3rd and the Bulldogs 6th, so Yale assumed the role of underdog status going into the matchup.

The day kicked off with the Bulldogs and the Big Red splitting the first two doubles matches. Caroline Amos and Mimi Levine lost 6-1, before Amy Yang and Elizabeth Zordani won their match 6-4. The rubber match was a tight one, but Samantha Martinelli and Valerie Shklover ultimately came out on the losing end against Cornell's No. 1 team 7-5, thus clinching the doubles point for the Big Red.

Martinelli was able to get revenge against Cornell captain Priyanka Shah, who she lost to in doubles, with a 6-1, 7-6 (5) win to kick off singles play. The two teams then proceeded to trade wins and losses; Levine lost a tight three-setter 3-6, 6-3, 1-6, before Amos' 7-6(2), 6-3 win. Zordani won in straight sets in the No. 5 matchup, followed by Skhlover's tight three-set loss against Cornell's Mariko Iinuma which leveled the score on the day at 3-3. The pressure was on for Amy Yang, who was playing the decider against Cornell's No. 3 Ananya Dua. The first set was tight, with Yang losing a thrilling tiebreak 8-6. She rebounded to dominate the second set, 6-0 to send the deciding matchup into a third set. There, Dua put her foot on the gas and won 6-1.

Despite a great effort, the Bulldogs were unable to get the W and will play the loser of Darmouth-Columbia tomorrow. Full results are listed below.
