JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After an impressive finish in Thursday's semifinal of the 1500 meters, Jocelyn Chau competed in Saturday's quarterfinals in an effort to qualify for the first round of NCAA nationals.
Chau, who competed in the first of two heats on Saturday evening, finished just outside the top 12 running a 4:24.61 for 17th place overall. Unfortunately, the first year had the disadvantage of racing in the opening heat, which dawdled and therefore didn't produce either of the two overall qualifying times. In her heat, Chau crossed the line in ninth place, and was the second first-year to finish overall in the event.
This race capped off Chau's impressive first season, which included breaking into Yale's top 10 list in the 1500, winning multiple races and clinching an ECAC title in the mile indoors.
Like her other teammates who qualified for regionals, the Toronto native still has a few races ahead of her competing for Yale and Harvard's combined team against Oxford and Cambridge in June.
